After a successful naming contest, which ran from February 12 to May 29, 2020, the winning name is … SAVY! The contest was open to most current York University students, who submitted their recommendations along with a rationale for their name choice. Submissions were evaluated, based on originality, appropriateness and thoughtfulness in capturing the transformational impact of our Student Virtual Assistant.
The contest received:
- 1,544 entries; with
- 1,064 unique name suggestions; from
- 733 students!
The winning name was announced at the beginning of September, and the student who submitted the winning name received a 12.9-inch 64GB retina display iPad Pro (valued at $1,249). If the winning name was submitted by more than one student, a prize winner will be drawn from those submissions. All students who submitted a name to the contest (except the contest winner) were entered into a draw to win one of six YU Card “Top-Ups” worth $100 each.
The name “SAVY” plays off of the word “savvy”, which is a term used to describe someone with practical knowledge and the ability to make good judgment. Second, the letters “S.A.V.Y” incorporate the first letters from “York Student Virtual Assistant.”
